History

O'Sullivan Beach Lonsdale Football club was established at the end of the 2001 season as the result of a merger between the O'Sullivan Beach Lions and the Mawson/Lonsdale Bears.

O'Sullivan Beach Lions

Established in 1975 the lions were based at the O'Sullivan Beach Community Centre their colours were Maroon and White the same as the primary school team colours and many of the inaugural team played in the O'Sullivan Beach Primary School team. They first fielded a team in the Southern Football League Under 13 competition in 1978.

Continuing to expand over the following years the first B Grade team played in 1981 in Division II and were undefeated winning that years Premiership.

The following year they fielded the first A grade team in Division II and went on to win 16 Premierships in total from Under 13 right through to A grade.

Mawson/Lonsdale Bears

Established in 1977 under the guide of Alan Griffin in the colours of Yellow and Green.

They fielded their first teams in 1978 under the name Mawson after Sir Douglas Mawson which was later voted to be changed to Lonsdale in 1996 by popular demand under then President Robert Bezemer.

With 6 Premierships from U13 to A grade including the final Division II A Grade premiership in 2001 before merging with O'Sullivan Beach and the dissolution of the Division II competition in the Southern Football League.

As with any merge between teams that used to play against each other the combined team of O'Sullivan Beach Lonsdale wasn't for everyone but there is some rich football history between the two teams and as the generations come through its our history that gives the kids the fight to keep playing on.
